Simple Appliqué

Simple Appliqué

In embroidery we refer to filling a design area with fabric rather than with stitches as appliqué. This project is a step-by-step guide to using appliqué in machine embroidery

 1:

First, hoop the item you'll be doing the embroidery on. In this example, I'm using a fingertip towel.

 2:

Now place your appliqué fabric over the hooped area.

 3:

Allow the first color stop in the appliqué to sew. This will usually be a run-stitch outline of the area to be filled with fabric.

 4:

Without un-hooping, remove the embroidered item from the machine and cut away the excess appliqué fabric.

 5:

Return the hoop to your machine and continue stitching the design. The zig-zag tackdown stitch and satin border will secure and cover the edge of the trimmed fabric.

 6:

Your finished product is a design complete with your own personalized detail that comes from choosing your own appliqué fabric.
