Sparkly Snowmen Quilt
We designed an interesting shape for this quilt -- an octagon! We chose bright fabrics with metallic highlights, which accompany the metallic in the snowmen. In this project, you will find the measurements for the pattern that we created.
1:
Choose the fabrics for your quilt. We chose bright fabrics with metallic highlights, which accompany the metallic in the snowmen.
2:
Prepare quilt pieces. A larger PDF copy of the quilt pattern is linked to this project. Feel free to copy the pattern or create your own for your own special project. All the measurements given are for finished pieces -- you must add seam allowances!
3:
Begin embroidering the designs. The designs we used for the four 5" squares are: "Snowman with Birds on Hat" (Hdsno25), "Snowmen on Sled" (Hdsno24), "Snowman Ice Skating" (Hdsno18), and "Snowman with Bird and Birdhouse" (Hdsno19).
4:
Embroider the remaining pieces. For the four 6" x 8" pieces, we embroidered the following designs: "Snowmen in Trees with Cat, Smaller" (Hdsno8), "'Snowman fall from Heaven' Applique Square" (Hdsno27), "Snowman Angel, Medium" (Hdsno1a), and "Snowmen Family Applique, Medium" (Hdsno12). See additional instructions for using the applique technique on the latter three designs.
5:
Embroider the center design. We used "Snowmen Group with Birds and Birdhouses Applique, Larger" (Hdsno31b) to fill the large rectangle. We also designed "Snowman with Birdhouse" (Hdsno32), "Two Snowmen with Birdhouses" (Hdsno33), and "Snowman with Birds" (Hdsno34) to create the same large scene while using a smaller sewing area.
6:
We also added "Snowflake Border" (Hdsno22) on the two 1.5" x 10" strips.
7:
Assemble and bind the quilt. We used a 1/2" binding. Display all winter long for a bit of sparkling cheer!
