Lace Star Bubbles
These bubbles make beautiful summer porch ornaments, or even Christmas tree ornaments later on. Freestanding lace stars are inside, and best of all, this is a simple project to complete.
1:
Hoop two layers of a water soluble stabilizer. I prefer Hemingworth's Hot Water Wash Away.
2:
For each bubble, embroider three copies of the small freestanding lace star AE0218, by Cornelia Dobner Creative Design. If you plan to hang these bubbles outdoors or near a window, you might use solar active color changing thread in the embroidery.
3:
When the embroidery is finished, cut the star out of the excess stabilizer.
4:
Immerse each finished star in hot water to dissolve the remaining stabilizer.
5:
Let the embroidery dry before moving on.
6:
With a tacky, permanent adhesive, spray the front side of an embroidered star. A teflon mat is helpful here, keeping the star from sticking to the sprayed surface.
7:
Press the star into half of a 5” acrylic globe, with the front side of the embroidery facing outward.
8:
Add a star to the other half of the globe, as well.
9:
Suspend the third star from a length of matching thread.
10:
Trap the thread between the two parts of the globe.
11:
Tie a knot in the thread to keep it secure.
12:
Now you can string the finished star bubbles on ribbons, monofilament, or ornament hooks for display.
