Butterfly Lace Candle Centerpiece

Butterfly Lace Candle Centerpiece

The lace candle holder is an easy project which perches beautifully atop the coordinating base. Together, they create a beautiful centerpiece.

 1:

This is thick lace with a lot of stitches in it so we use two layers of either Wet n Gone, Aqua Magic, or Aqua Mesh stabilizer. This type of stabilizer will give you the best stability. Before you begin stitching, you may want to pre-wind your bobbin colors or use pre-wound colored bobbins, so that the thread matches on both sides of the lace.

 2:

Embroider two copies of "Butterfly Lace Basket Side" (Hdbb1). Trim the stabilizer away closely, but don't rinse it out yet.

 3:

Use a joining stitch to attach the two pieces along the seams. The stitch on the left illustrates a joining stitch.

 4:

Once completed, the butterflies will wrap around a three inch candle. The project is ready to rinse and press. Use caution with flames near lace.

 5:

Now let's make the base for the candle holder. This centerpiece base uses the same techniques as the butterfly quilt, but with half the amount of embroidery sections and sewing. Embroider four large butterflies (Hdbb5), four small quilt elements (Hdbb9), and one center medallion (Hdbb8). Trim the stabilizer away closely, but don't rinse it out yet.

 6:

With a joining stitch, sew the four small lace elements together.

 7:

They will form a complete circle.

 8:

Insert the medallion into the center of the circle. Sew the center medallion in using the joining stitch.

 9:

Position one of the four butterflies as shown in the picture.

 10:

Stitch each of the four butterflies using the joining stitch.

 11:

Next, rinse away the stabilizer, dry, and press the candle holder base.

 12:

Set the candle on top of the base to complete a beautiful centerpiece.
