How to stitch Boho Tee Shirts

Instructions and stitch guides are included for creating the interfacing for the neckline for each shirt.

Boho 4 Hooping and Stitching

First hooping:
1. Left embroidery design -- stitch the placement guide first on a sticky washaway stabilizer.

2. Align that vertical placement mark with the center front of your tee shirt. Eileen explains how to do it with and without the Perfect Alignment Laser

3.  Align the horizontal mark with the top edge of the ribbing on the shirt.

4. Stitch the left embellishment there.

5. Rigth Embroidery design ---- stitch the placement guide first on a sticky washaway stabilizer.

6. Align that vertical placement mark with the center front of your tee shirt. Eileen explains how to do it with and without the Perfect Alignment Laser

7.  Align the horizontal mark with the top edge of the ribbing on the shirt.

8. Stitch the right embellishment there.

9. Center design ---- stitch the placement guide first on a sticky washaway stabilizer.

10. Align that vertical placement mark with the center front of your tee shirt. Eileen explains how to do it with and without the Perfect Alignment Laser.

11. Align the horizontal mark with the top edge of the ribbing on the shirt.

12. Stitch the center embellishment there.

13. Place Fuse-so-soft interfacing glue (rough) side up on top of the embroidery you have just completed.

14. Stitch the last color of the center design: this is the v-neck opening mark.

15. Snip a line in the center of that  V shape. Snip an angle into the corners on each side.

16. This creates a triangular point, which helps you to turn the v-neck inside.

17. Cut away the excess interfacing and fabric from within the stitched V.

18.  Turn the interfacing inside, and fuse it in place.

Sleeves:

You can use the embellishments on short or long sleeves.  You'll want to open the seam for doing the embroidery.

Thread:

Use 15 weight thread for the embellishments -- these stitch up fast because they use a chunky thread!

I use a MAC computer. Is this a format I could use?

I love these designs. But I have a question. I got another set of tshirt neckline designs I think from Sewing with Nancy. It looked done the same way. I wasn't happy because I felt the tricot interfacing was too visible. Yours look great. Any tips for getting them rolled back enough? Do you ever stitch down the v neck to make a sharper edge?

Hi, Sandra. Thanks for the question. I contacted Eileen from Designs in Machine Embroidery about your question and she replies as follows:

"You’re right, the designs are created in the same way as all of the neckline designs I created with Nancy Zieman.

The key to making the tricot ‘invisible’ is two-fold. When trimming the fabric, ‘grade’ the seam allowance. Hold the scissors at an angle while cutting. Then pull the tricot towards the wrong side of the shirt BEFORE applying the heat. It’s tricky, you have to work a small area at time. Start at the V and then work towards the neckline on one side. Then start at V again, and work the other side.

Tricot interfacing also comes in black – that might helpful when working with dark knits.

And by all means – edgestitch, if you’d like. It gives nice crisp finish.

Thank you purchasing Boho T-Shirts!"

We hope that helps!
