What happens when 9 sets of 9 in-the-hoop quilt blocks team up with 9 fabrics laid out in a 9x9 sudoku grid? The Qui-zzle! (Sudoku lovers, this one's for you! This design pack, for the 5x7 hoop, begins with solving a 9x9 sudoku puzzle (solution also included!) and then assigning fabrics to the numbers in the puzzle.

This process creates the fabric layout for the project, which consists of 9 large blocks. Each of the 9 blocks is formed with 3 rows of 3 smaller blocks created and joined in the hoop. Each row of 3 small blocks is then sewed to its 2 companion rows to create each large block. (The 9 large blocks are then sewed together and the qui-zzle is ready to be finished, as a wall hanging (finished size 40"x40") or table cover or, with additional borders and batting added, as a bed or lap quilt.

Another fun possibility: use them as the tops of 9 separate pillows to create an intriguing floor puzzle! Bottom line? Grab 9 different fat quarters (plus 3 more for the borders), enjoy the post-holiday rush, and settle in for a fun, fascinating, and unique project!

What fabric was used for the Qui-zzle? It is perfect

Hi Ramona. I'm not going to be a huge help here. How Jackie (PJ) picks her fabrics is that she goes to her stash of fabrics which she has collected over the years and picks out fabrics that would best work together. So, she doesn't end up with exact fabrics that she can recommend.

I can tell you that she recommend 9 fat quarters for the main front fabrics (plus three for the borders of one fabric color). If I were shopping for a similar look, I would print pages 4-6 of the instructions, which shows swatches of the fabric and take them to the store with me to help in my shopping choices. If I couldn't find an exact fabric, I would look at the overall look of the fabrics together and decide what might be a good substitute.

Sincerely,
~Heather
