Lace Inserts
Lace inserts are a quick and easy spin on the look of hardanger or cutwork, and they use the technique of freestanding lace. For this technique, you will need a sewing machine.
1:
Hoop one or two sheets of a water soluble stabilizer, and embroider the freestanding lace design directly on the stabilizer.
2:
When the embroidery is finished, cut away excess stabilizer from around the design. Then rinse the embroidery to dissolve the
remaining stabilizer.
4:
Use a zig-zag stitch on your sewing machine to tack the lace design onto a napkin, tablecloth, or garment.
5:
Once the embroidery is stitched down, reverse the item and pinch the center of the lace with one hand, and the center of the fabric
behind the lace in the other. Pull the two layers apart and cut a hole in the fabric. Continue cutting the fabric behind the lace away,
leaving the embroidered lace intact.
