Embroidered (and stuffed) Animals

Embroidered (and stuffed) Animals

Embroidered stuffed animals are cuddly, cute, and oh so playful! Each design in Anita Goodesigns' Stuffed Animals design pack is specially designed for ease at your embroidery machine. You'll just need enough stitching skills to hand stitch a small opening closed -- everything else is handled by your embroidery machine.

 1:

Hoop a piece of tearaway stabilizer.

 2:

Begin the embroidery. Embroider the outline stitch for the design, and then stop your embroidery machine.

 3:

Use the stitched outline as a guide. Lay the fabric you've selected (fleece or felt are especially easy to work with) down to cover the entire outline.

 4:

You might be tempted to try using a chenille or other fluffy, fuzzy fabric. Don't be dissuaded by the way these fabrics tend to "eat up" embroidery stitches. Before the main decorative stitching begins, place a layer of clear permanent topping or water soluble topping over the fabric. This will keep your stitches on top, and can easily be cleared away after the embroidery is finished.

 5:

After the fabric is in place, start your embroidery machine again. A second outline will be stitched. This tacks your fabric down. Stop the embroidery machine.

 6:

Next, trim the excess fabric away along the stitched outline.

 7:

After the design is trimmed, continue to embroider the rest of the animal. After the satin stitched outline, stop the embroidery machine again.

 8:

Start your machine and stitch the last piece of fleece down. Toward the end of the stitching, you will see an area of longer, looser stitches.

 9:

Once again, trim the excess faric as in step five.

 10:

Pull out the longer stitches created in step 8.

 11:

Now you can remove the embroidery from the hoop and tear away the stabilizer.

 12:

Scrunch up the design and stuff it through the hole, until you have the entire design turned right side out.

 13:

This is pretty cute as it is, and now you'll add an extra cuddle factor by stuffing batting through the hole until the character has reached optimal plumpness.

 14:

Now all you need to do is hand stitch the hole closed.

 15:

Now you can repeat these steps to create stuffed animals of many different species! Little ones love them.
