Star Spangled Grandma T-Shirt
My husband's grandma was born on July 4th. For her birthday, we always have a family party that begins with the Hyrum parade and always ends with french dip sandwiches and pink crumb-top jello at her place. When the "Star Spangled Grandma" design became available from Embroidery Central, I knew it was meant for her!
1:
Gather the following supplies: Design MH88 (Star Spangled Grandma) available at Embroidery.com; 1 Grandma size white t-shirt; four or five thread colors of your choice -- I used all metallic colors: Ruby 315, Cobalt 338, Gold6,
Silver; 1 Embroiderer’s Friend for Adult Sizes; 2 squares of medium weight stabilizer; Clear tape.
2:
Hoop your shirt, using your hoop and the Embroiderer’s Friend. To start hooping, do the following: Adjust hoop tension as desired. Mount the back of your hoop on the Embroiderer’s Friend.
3:
Adjust the Embroiderer's friend to securely hold your hoop in the desired position.
4:
Arrange the flat side brackets on the Embroiderer’s Friend. I like to place them on the right-hand side, since my hoop attaches on the left.
Position the eccentric pins.
5:
Fold the shirt in half widthwise, so that the shoulder seams touch and the collar is folded in half backwards.
6:
On the left side of the shirt, measure center 4” from fold and 7” from shoulder/collar intersection. The Embroiderer's Buddy is also a great tool for finding the proper placement. Mark this point with a placement dot or on clear tape stuck to the shirt.
7:
Lay the stabilizer over the bottom hoop. Tape it down to the Embroiderer’s Friend to keep stabilizer in place.
8:
Unfold shirt and slide it over the Embroiderer’s Friend.
10:
Take the hooped shirt to the embroidery machine and sew, starting at the center mark.
11:
Cut or tear the backing away when you're finished, and you're ready to present the shirt to your "Star Spangled" grandma with a hug!
