Pinwheels for Red, White, and Bloom
(the same technique applies to sewing and embroidery versions)
Lauri likes to add embellishments with needle and embroidery floss. She recommends a good, solid needle for working with all of the layers of fabric.
Tip: use pinking shears or a curved cutter on the sewing version if you
like.
Tip: to give your pinwheels even more dimension, add a few buttons on the backside before stitching them onto the quilt.
Label the corners, A, B, C, D clockwise.
From the bottom of the pinwheel, put thread right through the middle. Add corner A to your needle, and proceed clockwise, tacking down each corner, if you like.
Add the button in the center, on top of the folded-in corners. Tie a knot on the back to hold the pinwheel, and then stitch the pinwheel onto your project.
