Secret Garden First Communion or Confirmation Set

Secret Garden First Communion or Confirmation Set

A project from Leslie Saari, this is an especially easy and quick project. It's perfect for First Communion or Confirmation. With a few variations and change of color, the individual pieces can be used for many costumes and occasions. Imagine your favorite little fairy princess decked out with delicate accessories such as these.

 1:

Embroider 5 solo rose satin designs on white satin (two for the veil, one for each wristlet and dress ornament

 2:

Embroider four solo leaf designs on white organdy or satin (two for the veil, two for the dress ornament).

 3:

You will need a three inch barrette and 1/2 yard of sparkle white tulle for the veil. You will need 3/4 yard of 1/4 inch wide sparkle white double edged lace for the wristlet, dress ornament, and veil ornament. Also have on hand a one inch pin back for the dress ornament, glitterglue, pearls, beads, and sequins, and 6 inches of 1/4 wide elastic for the wristlet.

 4:

For the veil, cut two half-circles from the tulle, and place one over the other. If you have a larger piece of tulle, cut a circle and fold in half.

 5:

Gather tulle along the straight edge, and sew or hot glue to the barette.

 6:

For the veil ornament, embroider and cut the solo rose motifs out of the fabric. Cut the small scalloped center from one rose. Trim and remove the fabric "whiskers" of the cut edges with a candle (very carefully!), a small soldering iron, or a woodburning tool.

 7:

Layer the rose center over a full rose. To raise the center and create more texture, stitch a pearl or large bead between the rose and the center. Stitch together using a pearl or crystal bead over an opaque opalescent sequin. Embellish rose with pearl glitter glue, applying to the dots, lines and edges. Let dry well.

 8:

For the wristlet, embellish rose with glitter glue, beads, and sequins. Gather a length of sparkle ribbon and stitch to an elastic. Stitch the decorated rose to the lace and elastic wristlet

 9:

For the dress ornament, embellish the rose with glitter glue, sequin and beads. Stitch rose and leaves together, or attach with a glue glun. Fashion a 4 inch double loop flat bow (a total of four loops) and secure in the center with stitches or a fine wire. Stitch decorated rose to the lace bow with a few stitches, or glue gun. Stitch or glue to a pin back.
