Mirroring an Embroidery Design File

Mirroring an Embroidery Design File

You may have a design that's perfect for a project except for one thing: it needs to face the other way. In the past, I have seen mirror images created by software that simply "pancaked" the design -- flipping the color stop order while flipping the design. This method puts the last colors first, and sews the underlay on top! In this technique we'll do better. We'll use commercially available free software to create a mirror image of an embroidery design with great results.

 1:

Obtain the Wilcom True Sizer software for this project (see the link below). Open Wilcom True Sizer. Use the "Open" command on the File menu to bring up the design you will be working with, in the format of your choice.

 2:

Click the "Select all" icon in the toolbar (it looks like two triangles with a circle). Alternately, use "Select All" from the Edit menu. The selected design will turn white.

 3:

Click one of the mirror icons to execute the change. The two mirror icons look like two triangles, representing the direction you will mirror the design. Today, we're flipping this design from right to left.

 4:

Now, to deselect the design so that you can see the colors again, go to the Edit menu, and choose "Deselect All." This restores your flipped design to color.

 5:

Save the flipped file using the "Save As" command in the file menu. You may change the file's name in the box provided, and select the format of your choice from the dropdown list.

 6:

Here, a border for a simple napkin monogram accent has been created by carefully placing mirrored versions of the same heart border design. This makes a great gift.
