Quality embroidery depends on thread that is strong, vibrant, colorfast, and consistent. That's what makes Hemingworth Thread so remarkable. Each Hemingworth thread spool comes with the spool, cap and stopper system and contains 1000 meters of 40 wt, trilobal, polyselect, high-sheen embroidery thread. This amazing thread is 100% colorfast, soft and supple, with superb stitching results. Hemingworth thread is known for its durability and strength, as well as its brilliant luster. It is suitable for home and commercial embroidery machines, sewing and quilting machines. Hemingworth thread is ideal for digitized embroidery designs and built-in decorative machine stitches.

Embroiderers have faced the challenge of effectively storing embroidery thread, and as any embroiderer can attest, unraveling and untangling are all too familiar and frustrating problems. Hemingworth's patented protective cap solves these problems. It preserves thread quality by blocking dust, oil and UV rays. It also makes the thread easy to handle and store. The removable stopper traps the thread tail, preventing unraveling and tangling during storage.

While the thread is being used, the opening at the top of the cap provides a smooth, easy thread feed from any direction, decreasing snagging and thread breaks. As your thread consistently feeds from the spool to the machine without tangling, snagging, or unraveling, your embroidery process will become streamlined and pleasant, allowing you to create lasting works of art.

I'm looking for the protective caps.. I saw them and couldn't find them again! I've lost 6 protective covers and am re-organizing. I only use Hemingsworth thread!

Hi, Susanna. Thanks for your loyalty to Hemingworth thread. We do still offer the protective covers on their own. You can search Embroidery.com for item "HWCap" or follow this link:

Hi. I am a very new and inexperienced embroiderer. My cousin recommended Hemingworth thread when I began. I don't know any other brand but the cover and the stopper are such a great feature I can't imagine using any other thread.

I've used lots of threads over the years, and some had really annoying thread spools that the thread would actually get caught on. With others, there was a need for some way to tie the thread ends fast between uses. I agree with your assessment of the Hemingworth cover and stopper. They really are a great combination.

Hello,
I'm looking at the Hemmington Antique Silver thread. I using it for a police badge. Is it "shiny" enough to use for this. They want something that sort of "pops" other than a dull silver or grey.
AND, do you have any other suggestions for a thread for this purpose.
Thanks.

How does Hemingworth compare to Madeira? I love using Madeira Rayon and can't imagine finding any that compare.

Kirsten S.

Hi Judy,

To me Hemingworth is shinier than Madeira. I use them both, and find the thread itself to be of great quality in either case, but I love the Hemingworth spool, cap, and stopper for managing the thread, and the luster can be a bonus for many projects, as well.

I'm very happy with Hemingworth thread. I've tried them all; Hemingworth is one that comes in at the top of my preferred threads.

Hi, Judy. Thanks for the question. Hemingworth is a very high quality thread. I'd say the thread quality is comparable to Madeira, but the protective cap system sets Hemingworth apart. It preserves thread quality by blocking dust, oil and UV rays. It also makes the thread easy to handle and store. The removable stopper traps the thread tail, preventing unraveling and tangling during storage. If you'd like to see a video demo, here's a link:

A product called Sewers Aid is what you need when using the metallic thread. I've used and sold Hemingworth thread in my fabric shop, Family Fabrics in Waldport, OR (Central Oregon Coast) for 13 years, and obviously love it! The best I can tell a customer is that the metallic doesn't break as often as other metallic, but the color selection in their metallic is awesome! Just take the cover off, squeeze a line of Sewers Aid from top to bottom on three sides, it flows through the machine a lot smoother. It won't stain your fabric or thread, won't hurt your machine (in very tense moments I've actually squirted Sewers Aid into a puddle above the last thread guide to get a good lube on the thread!)

I am looking for thread that glows in the dark or appears to - is there any ? thanks

Hi you order glow in the dark threads from ebay and amazon.

Hi, Janice. Embroidery.com does not carry any glow in the dark thread; however, there are other companies that do. Just do a web search and you should get lots of options. Here's a search I did:

A friend told me about Hemmingworth Thread I bought a lot and plan on getting more absolutely love but not real happy with the metallic thread can't use

Hi, Lisa. I am glad you have found Hemingworth and enjoying your threads!

Be aware that metallic threads in general can be tricky to use. A few tips:

1) Try slowing down your machine. This helps in giving your thread time to sort out any kinks, etc. (Aim for 600 – 750 spm.)
2), Make sure you are using a new, quality embroidery needle. (As an aside, popular embroidery design Lindee Goodall says that she has found that despite their name, metallic needles do not work well with metallic threads.)
3) Try loosening your tensions slightly.
4) Make sure your machine is clean, with no rough spots that will cause the metallic threads to catch.
5) Test your design. Some designs are better than others for use with metallics. It's best to pre-test to make sure you're not going to have lots of breaks.
6) Purchase a product such as the Control-a-Twist Thread Guide. This will help sort out kinks by giving your thread a longer thread path.

I hope this helps!

I have also tried several brands and prefer Hemingworth. It is not only beautiful thread and the colors are beautiful but it is also a great price. I am so glad I can still order it.

I wish too I had only Hemingworth thread. The store close to me quit selling it and promotes another brand. I have trouble with that brand and I am so glad I found this site to order from. The clear case around the spools is just so neat. Thanks, Hemingworth.

this is just a comment in case anyone is interested. I have worked with 5 different thread lines and by far Hemmingworth Threads are my favorite. Very rarely do the threads break or unravel and the coned cover really does a couple of things. First, it keeps your thread clean from lint and oils in the home from cooking or anything else. Next that cone allows the thread to be fed out of the top smoothly and tangle free. Third, it makes it extremely easy to close and tie up the loose end when finished. My dealer really tried to get me into another brand and I must say I wasted money. I wish I'd learned about Hemmingworth early as I'd have saved about 700.00 worth of thread that's in an odd ball drawer and a lot of headaches!

Just my two cents but I won't use anything else!
