Applique Pockets

Applique Pockets

Dress up your winter wear with adorable Pocket Pals.

 1:

Gather the following materials: T-shirt or other apparel/garment, applique fabric, embroidery thread, scissors, embroidery files (Christmas Pocket Pal design, Pocket Applique design*, Pocket Finish design*). *Use matching pocket designs, Diamond Pocket Applique with Diamond Pocket Finish / Star Pocket Applique with Star Pocket Finish! The Diamond Pocket Applique with the Star Pocket Finish will not work. There are 10 Pocket Pals and 6 pockets to choose from in the Christmas Applique Pockets Design Pack.

 2:

Cut your applique fabric first, using one of the three following methods to create a template. 1.) Using embroidery software: open the Pocket Applique design and print the first color stop only. Cut the pocket out and use it as a template to cut your applique fabric. 2.) Using your embroidery machine: Open the Pocket Applique design and embroider the first color stop only on the backing. Remove the backing from the hoop and cut the pocket out to use as a template for your applique fabric. 3.) Using your embroidery machine: Open the Pocket Applique design and embroider the first color stop only directly on the applique fabric. Then remove the design from the hoop and cut out the applique piece along the dieline. Set the applique piece aside.

 3:

Now you will embroider the Applique Pocket. Load the Applique pocket design into your machine. Hoop a piece of tear away backing and embroider the first color stop, which is the dieline for the applique piece. Stop the machine.

 4:

Spray the back of the applique piece with spray adhesive and place the applique piece, face up, inside the dieline.

 5:

Start the machine again and finish embroidering this part of the design.

 6:

Remove the applique piece from the hoop. Cut away the extra backing leaving about a 1/4 to 1/2" of backing around the top and sides of the applique then gently tear away the backing from the bottom of the applique. Place a couple pieces of tape to the back of the applique and set aside. **Please read all of the following steps before continuing.

 7:

When you hoop the garment, you will need a hoop big enough to embroidery the Pocket Pal and the Pocket. The largest Pocket Pal with Pocket measures 6 7/8" high x 3.53" wide. All designs start and end at the same spot (see step 9). (If you do not have a hoop large enough you can embroidery the Pocket Pal first then re-hoop the design, line up the pocket below the Pal and embroider. The center point is right at the top of each Pocket.)

 8:

Now you will embroider your pocket pal on your garment.

 9:

Upload the Pocket Finish file in your machine and embroider the dieline. (All designs start & end at the same spot so you can load the Pocket Finish file and it will embroider in the correct spot.) After the dieline has embroidered, stop the machine and place the completed applique pocket inside the dieline.

 10:

Continue embroidering the design until it is completed. Remove the garment from the hoop and gently pull the tear away from the pocket.

 11:

You are now finished with your new adorable Pocket Pal.
