Cross Stitched Rose Watchband

Cross Stitched Rose Watchband

Cross stitched Roses edged with metallic thread harmonize with the watch face in this elegant embroidered watch band. Cross stitch by machine embroidery gives a new meaning to the question, "Do you have the time?"

 1:

Use a dark colored fabric of medium weight, preferably one that does not unravel. Hoop the fabric with a dark stabilizer such as Floriani's black No Show Fusible Mesh. Whether you choose to fuse the mesh to the fabric or not, the softness and flexibility makes this a good choice for backing on the watchband.

 2:

Embroider the watchband design. Once the embroidery is finished, you are ready to assemble the watchband.

 3:

After embroidery, trim the excess backing away. Applique scissors are excellent for this purpose.

 4:

Trim the fabric around the embroidery, leaving the extra length for the fitting which you will do later on. If your fabric could unravel, leave a 3/8" margin from the embroidery on all sides, press the margin back, and hem for a finished look.

 5:

Measure your wrist for a good fit. Depending on the size of your wrist, you might trim the watchband at the edge of the embroidery, cutting off part of the embroidery, or leave some extra length beyond the embroidery.

 6:

If you have another set of hands to assist you, you may wish to test pin the watchbands and actually try it on before trimming.

 7:

Trim the watchband to the desired length. Allow 3/8" for the bands to overlap, plus 1/4" for attaching each band.

 8:

Attach hook and loop tape to each end of the finished length. Cut the loop side into the shape of the pointed end, and attach to the underside of the embroidery. Cut the hook side to fit the butt end, and attach it to the embroidered side of the band.

 9:

Hand stitch the inside ends of the bands around the watch's attachment posts.

 10:

The embroidered cross stitch roses watchband is ready to wear.
