Tooth Fairy Pillow

Tooth Fairy Pillow

The Tooth Fairy Pillow is a fun way to carry on the "Tooth Fairy" tradition. This enchanting pillow is embellished with a beautiful fairy design and has a perfect, tooth-sized pocket! Once your child is asleep, the tooth is magically replaced by coins. Your little toothless tyke is sure to love this special pillow!

 1:

There are two designs which are needed to complete this project: The Tooth Fairy (CD010104BA), sewn on the main pillow, and the Tooth design (CD010104BB), sewn on the pocket. Both designs need to be sewn on the material before the pillow is constructed. The instructions for making the pillow are listed below. The finished Pillow Size is 14.75" wide by 10.5" high. Plan for a standard .25" seam allowance.

 2:

Fold fabric in half lengthwise with selvages together. Mark a 15" x 10.75" rectangle on double thickness of fabric and cut it out.

 3:

Unfold the remaining fabric and draw your pocket piece shape on a single thickness of fabric. Tip: A pocket from a discarded item of clothing makes a good template. For hooping ease, don't cut this out until after the embroidery.

 4:

Print production sheets for each design: Tooth Fairy (CD010104BA) and Tooth (CD010104BB).

 5:

On the pillow rectangle, cut out in step 2, mark the placement for the tooth fairy design and the pocket (printed production sheets and paper layout templates are helpful as you plan the layout).

 6:

Embroider the Tooth Fairy (CD010104BA) design on the front area of the pillow fabric.

 7:

Embroider the Tooth (CD010104BB) design on the pocket. Cut the pocket out along the marked lines.

 8:

Now begin making the pocket. Using long stitches, machine stitch 1/4 inch from the unfinished edge around all four sides of the pocket piece to form a guideline for folding the edges later, in the pocket finishing stage.

 9:

Fold top of the pocket piece to the wrong side of the fabric at the 1/4 inch guideline.

 10:

Sew a 1/4 inch hem at the top of the pocket.

 11:

Fold the top of the pocket to the right side of the fabric at the fold line.

 12:

Sew a 1/4 inch seam at each of the two ends of the fold.

 13:

Trim seams at the corners of the fold to eliminate bulk.

 14:

Turn top of pocket right side out.

 15:

Turn under sides and bottom edges of the pocket piece at the 1/4 inch guideline stitches.

 16:

Pin the pocket to the pillow fabric following the placement markings. Sew the pocket to the pillow piece stitching close to the folded edge at the sides and bottom.

 17:

We're almost done! On the right side of the fabric of one pillow piece, pin cording around all four edges of the pillow, aligning the unfinished edge of the cording with the unfinished edge of the pillow piece. Do not overlap the cording at pillow corners. Sew cording to pillow piece 1/4 inch from edge of fabric.

 18:

Pin the two pillow pieces, right sides together, and sew around all four edges of pillow at seam allowance (1/4 inch) leaving a 3" to 4" opening for stuffing.

 20:

Turn pillow right side out. Stuff pillow with batting or filling.

 21:

Close the stuffing opening by hand.

 22:

Now for bedtime and tooth fairy magic!
