Embroidering with High Contrast Colors

Embroidering with High Contrast Colors

Whether you want to embroider light thread on dark fabric or dark thread on light fabric, high contrasting colors can be beautiful together. The only problem is that the fabric can sometimes show through the embroidery. Seeing the fabric through the embroidery makes your embroidery look sparse rather than stunning. This technique will teach you to use the Hide It Permanent Topper to keep your high contrast embroidery beautiful.

 1:

Determine which areas of your embroidery design could benefit from the use of a permanent topper. Areas with tiny openings might prove difficult for removal of the excess topper.

 2:

Generally speaking, flat filled areas benefit more from permanent topper than do satin stitched areas.

 3:

Lay a coordinating colored topper over the embroidery area just prior to stitching the corresponding part of the design.

 4:

After that section is embroidered, stop your machine and simply tear away the excess topper before moving on. The stitching has perforated the topper cleanly around the edge of the embroidery.

 5:

Because you place the topper over each area as it sews rather than hooping it with the fabric, you can use several different colors of topper in the same design. This is especially helpful for large high-contrast designs, where it may be desirable to closely match the topper to the thread colors in several areas.

 6:

However, even just one color of Hide It Permanent Topper can greatly benefit small designs that have several colors. In this example, the white, yellow, and orange design areas were all enhanced on the black fabric by using just the white permanent topper.
