Project Video featuring Crescent Santa by PJ Designs

Join Donnett & DeeAnn for this week's Project Video featuring Crescent Santa by PJ Designs.

Crescent Santa Design Pack is a in-the-hoop project and comes in 2 sizes. One for the 6x10 hoop finishing out at 16 1/2" x 14 1/2" and one for the 7x12 hoop finishing out at 19 1/2" x 16 1/2", not including the extra length provided by the dangling stars.

Each size consists of 8 design files each with lots of decorative stitching. Then the Santa pieces are all connected to each other in the hoop.

Donnett: You used some amazing fabric for the beard of the Santa, tell me about that fabric.

DeeAnn: It is a minky type fabric but has the texture of hair. I wanted to make it look like a real Santa's beard.

Donnett: You had to use a topping what did you use?

DeeAnn: On one of the first pieces I stitched I tried to use a heat away but it got all clumped up in the fabric. So for the rest I used a wash away.

Donnett: This is an pieced in the hoop project, how was piecing it?

DeeAnn: It was a lot easier then I what I thought it was going to be. The stitches were lined up just the way they should be. They just fit right into place with each other.

Donnett: For the brim of his hat you used another type of fabric.

DeeAnn: Yes I wanted it to look like a Santa' hat so I used red Buffalo Plaid (for the body of the hat) which Buffalo Plaid is so in right now.

Donnett: And then the brim is a plush minky which you used a topping for. Did you use the same wash away?

DeeAnn: Yes (I used Wash Away)

Donnett: In the body of the hat it is quilted and I love how you accentuated that quilting with the bells.

DeeAnn: In the tutorial instructions it gives you several ides of embellishment. I believe it says bells for the hat and stars for the beard. But with the fabric I choose I felt like it was embellishment enough.

Donnett: The holly you stitched is a separate piece.

DeeAnn: Yes you can attach that at any place on Crescent Santa or even not at all.

Donnett: I love that you did the stars in GlitterFlex.

DeeAnn: Stars Sparkle...

Donnett: At the top of the hat as part of the design are two eyelets for hanging. You were able to get a dowel for it to hang straight.

DeeAnn: Yes I tried to hang it without the dowel and it would curve up, so it wouldn’t lay flat. So if you add the dowel on the back of that and tie the ribbon to either end the dowel holds it flat.
