Dimensional Brooch Pin

Dimensional Brooch Pin

This tutorial will show you how to make wearable embroidered flowers -- choose your own fabric to perfectly match existing wardrobe items!

 1:

You may wish to start by selecting a bobbin thread to match the top thread for the dimensional work.

 2:

Stitch the first color stop of the flower petal design "Large Dimensional Flower Petals" (JM46a) on a water soluble stabilizer.

 3:

Place fabric for your flower over the outline. Secure it with tape placed outside the stitching area.

 4:

Stitch the applique tack-down, and trim away the excess fabric.

 5:

Stitch the petal border.

 6:

Repeat these steps to make as many of the different sized petals as you would like. The designs used in this illustration are the large, medium, and small dimensional flower petals (JM46a, JM46b, and JM46c). My finished brooch used one each of the three sizes.

 7:

Wash the stabilizer away, and allow the petal pieces to dry.

 8:

Hoop a tear away stabilizer, and stack the brooch flowers on top, using tape to secure the stack.

 9:

Stitch "Dimensional Flower Center" (JM47) in the center of the petal stack, binding the petal pieces together.

 10:

Tear the flower out of the stabilizer. You can use glue to attach the flower to your brooch pin. For a more secure hold, follow up with a needle and thread.
