Stitched Sentiments

Stitched Sentiments

This Asian inspired bell pull wall hanging is easy to make, and it carries your own message through the year. To make it, you need Stitch'n Shape, Chinese character designs, ribbon, and a bell pull kit.

 1:

Cut six squares of Stitch'n Shape, four inches in size.

 2:

Mark the center of of one of the Stitch’n Shape squares with removable ink.

 3:

Spray the other side of the square with embroidery-safe adhesive.

 4:

Place the square on a hooped piece of stabilizer. We used a tearaway stabilizeri n the hoop. If you have a brightly colored cutting mat, you can lay the hoop over the cutting mat and use the grid to place the square straight within the hoop.

 5:

Embroider the designs on the squares. In this example project, "Beauty" (ZO093), "Courage" (ZO099), and "Forgiveness" (ZO108) from Stitchitize were used for one side of the hanger, and "Laugh" (CD010907FB), "Love" (CD010807FW), and "Hope" (CD010907FD) from Starbird are on the other side.

 6:

With a ruler, lay out the embroidered squares, creating the spacing for the tiles.

 7:

Plan to leave enough ribbon at each end to tie around the bell pulls, and cut lengths of ribbon. The spacing we used came to a 22 inch length.

 8:

Align the ribbons with the sides of the squares, with one square on top of the ribbon, and one square on the bottom, sandwiching the ribbon between. Pin the pieces together.

 9:

Stitch borders along the four sides of each square, so the ribbons are attached.

 10:

Tie the ribbons around the bell pulls.

 11:

Remove the finials from the top bell pull, and insert the included cord, pinching it inside with the dowel.

 12:

This simple project yields a personalized wall hanging, a home blessing, a dream for the future, or a daily meditation. Make this a year of laughter, love, and hope, or beauty, courage, and forgiveness. You can have it your way, when you stitch your sentiments.
