Dianna, both ways have been done. I might suggest trying winding a bobbin of matching thread for patches, personally. There's a video that I think you might find useful.

Hi, Mary. I'm sorry but I don't think that is possible. My understanding is that the 500E's maximum stitching capability is 7.9" x 11". Even if you have a 9" x 13" hoop, I don't think you can stitch larger designs. Sorry about that.

I'm most familiar with the Embrilliance digitizing software, and haven't used Digitizer 5.5 at all. I poked the Internet to see what I could find out though.

I read that On Windows® 7 or later, you must send designs one at a time when using a USB-RS-232C Conversion Adapter. An error is displayed when trying to send multiple designs at the same time.

This sounds like your issue, even though what you describe is sending one design at a time. Apparently it just seems that a design gets "stuck" and neither transfers nor lets you send the next design. One piece of advice I found was to fix the USB port settings. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find what the correct settings would need to be; if that is specific to Digitizer, or if general computer USB port settings would suffice. I also have not been able to find any way to "clear" previous attempts.

There is an alternate way to get designs to the machine, through a USB stick. Do you have that as an option? The forum at this address: https://tv-sewingcenter.com/janome/getting-that-em... has good instructions for doing that.

Yes I probly can get designs sent through a USB . It's just if I can get this problem solved it is MUCH easier this way....cut's out the middleman!

If there is a Janome dealer you can make contact with, they are your best bet. I have one here, and I can ask them, however they only just recently started carrying the machines. It will also help if you can give me the exact wording of the error message that you get when you try to transfer a file, please?

Have you saved your embroidery in an embf file on your desktop. If not create the embf file...a janome file and an emb file . Then after opening your embroidery manager program click on Design. It will open to a file screen.

Choose desktop and then open your embf file. Click on the design. The machine will take you back to the home page. Click on Write a Design. Again a page will open.

3. Click on the red arrow to send.

Pls be sure to turn on your e350 before connecting to the computer.

Hi, Laura. If Marjorie receives these messages, perhaps she can chime in. However, from what I can see, the 350e and 500e appear to have different interfaces. My guess is that they have some similar capabilities, but I wouldn't assume that they have identical processes, since the 500e has a higher price point and thus a more hightech display screen, for starters.

I reformated my thumb drive and I don't have any more problems. Sometimes the enternal drive will get it's memory messed up. Try my suggestion and let me know if it works for you.

I also have the Janine 500E Machine. There are many companies that offer designs to buy. Usually I like to try a free design first before I buy one from a company. Once the free design did not turn out that great so I just don’t buy from that company. When you register with a company they will ask you what machine you have and if you order a design that does not fit your hoops the site will tell you that before you buy.

Hi, Christine. Congratulations on your new machine! The good news is there are many designs that will work with your machine. You should be able to download designs from sites like ours in the JEF format and transfer them to your machine via USB flash drive or direct connect (USB cable). My notes say that your maximum embroidery area is 7.9" x 11", which is a roomy embroidery area. If you want to search for designs that fit within that area at Embroidery.com, you can select your maximum sewing size and the JEF format from our Advanced Search page and get lots of results:
