Well, the days are getting shorter, the leaf piles are getting taller, and it's time to start the Christmas gifts, so how about this new twist on the old favorite Tree-mendous to kick off the season! As the name suggests, this tree is 3-dimensional and consists of 3-piece double-sided panels, which are then sewn together to make a free-standing multi-panel tree (I did 6 panels in the sample) standing an impressive 16 1/2" tall (not counting the top bow).

Also included is a double-sided tree mat (14 1/4" across at its widest point), created entirely in the hoop, to which you may hand-tack the tree for additional stability or use as a festive plate charger/placemat. The tree features fleece batting and lots of pretty decorative stitching and offers countless opportunities for embellishments, and the mat features traditional diamond-motif quilting as well as fleece batting.

The tutorial details how to create the sample look of 3 strategically-used fabrics for a festive look for both the tree and mat. So take advantage of the gorgeous holiday fabrics now in the stores and get in the holiday spirit in 3D!

Be sure to carefully review the design sizes for each design before your purchase.

I am having a hard time attaching the tree to the mat. Do you have any suggestions like size of sewing needle and weight of thread. It is very awkward trying to attach this.

Hi Cheryl. Thanks for the question. We're sorry you're having trouble. I contacted Jackie (PJ from PJ Designs) and she wanted me to convey the following information to you:

She says to be sure to attach the tree to the mat BY HAND and NOT BY MACHINE. The pattern instructions recommend hand-tacking. In that case, she says: "I don't have any special recommendation, just a sharp fine needle (and maybe a thimble if she's having problems getting the needle to pass through) and just regular sewing thread, although I probably just used my embroidery thread that was handy. One thing she needs to keep in mind is that she should pass the needle on both articles (the tree and the mat) through the fabric NEAR the satin stitching instead of through the satin stitching itself. Another choice which I actually used to make my sample more stow-able was to use safety pins on the back side of the mat, passing the point up through the mat, catching a bit of the tree and then passing the point back under the mat and fastening the pin closed."

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have further questions.

I'm considering purchasing the tree and mat, but is the mat one hooping or multiple hoopings? I have a Dream Machine 2, but the biggest hoop is still only 9 1/4 x 14".

Hi, Sandra. Thanks for the question. The mat is done in several hoopings and only requires a 6" x 10" hoop, so your 9 1/4" x 14" hoop will be more than sufficient.

Please let us know if you have further questions.
