Spice It Up Necessities Holder

Spice It Up Necessities Holder

Do you always have the right sugar substitute when you are out to eat??? What about a particular kind of tea bag? In a hotel or on the road and there is no creamer for your coffee??? Never be with out your favorite condiments again: they will always be there when you need them. This project makes a little carry all for your purse that can hold sugar, creamer, tea bags or hand cleaners, wipes for your glasses or a first aid kit. This project requires an embroidery machine with a 5x7 inch (130x180mm) field minimum.

Step 1:

You will need the following supplies: embroidery machine with 5x7 inch (103x180mm) minimum, 2 pieces stabilizer to fit hoop, 1 piece decor fabric 6x8 for outside cover, 2 pieces of lining fabric 7x6, 1 piece coordinated fabric 7x8 folded to 3 1/2 x 8 (first pocket), 1 piece coordinated fabric 5x8 folded to 2 1/2 x 8 (second pocket), 1 piece grosgrain ribbon 5x1 folded in half, 1 decorative snap set, and embroidery thread.

Step 2:

This project takes 2 hoopings. The first hooping will make the inside pockets and the second will make the outside cover and complete the construction. The "Spice it Up" lettering can be substituted for your monogram or any other design desired with the merge function on your machine or with your software.

Step 3:

1st Hooping. Hoop stabilizer. Sew out placement lines.

Step 4:

Place 1 piece of lining fabric over right side of placement lines right side out overlapping center line about 1/2". Fold 1 edge of 7x6 fabric along the 7" edge back approx. 1/2" to 6 1/2" x 6. Place this piece with fold aligned with center line overlapping the previous piece. Sew the tack down stitch.

Step 5:

Place first piece of folded 4x8 fabric over lower half of rectangle overhanging lower edge approx. 1/2". Sew side tack down stitches.

Step 6:

Place second folded 2 1/2 x 8 fabric over previous pocket, overhanging lower edge also. Sew tack down stitches.

Step 7:

Sew additional tack down stitch around entire piece.

Step 8:

Remove from hoop. Trim to 1/4" from final sew lines. Set aside.

Step 9:

Second Hooping. This hooping makes the outside cover and puts both pieces together. This is also the hooping to substitute your monogram or desired design by using the merge function on your machine or software.

Step 10:

Hoop stabilizer. Sew out placement lines.

Step 11:

Place batting (optional) and 6 x 8 outer fabric over placement lines. Sew tack down stitches.

Step 12:

Sew quilting stitches.

Step 13:

This step sews out the "Spice it Up" lettering. If desired, substitute your monogram or any other design. This step also sews out the placement for a snap to be attached later and a ribbon placement.

Step 14:

Fold ribbon in half and place within placement lines, fold of ribbon to the center of the cover, raw edge to the outside edge.

Step 15:

Sew tack down stitch for ribbon.

Step 16:

Place pocket piece right sides down aligning sewing lines. Sew final tack down stitch.

Step 17:

Remove from hoop. Trim to 1/4" from final seam line. With a seam ripper cut a hole in the stabilizer on the pocket piece at the center placement line (this gives you access to turn piece right side out).

Step 18:

Turn right side out. Press.

Step 19:

Attach gripper snap as directed by manufacture to back cover and ribbon. With sewing machine, sew down open lining, thru all layers, at edge of folded lining. This is also the center back seam.

Step 20:

Fill with your choice of items.
