Embroidered Thank You Cards

Embroidered Thank You Cards

This project shows you how to dress up blank cards using a paper embroidery technique — we’ll give you three different card ideas. You'll need blank 5x7 greeting cards, glue, a "Thank you" embroidery design, and a variety of colored craft papers.

Step 1:

For this Thank You card, I used a textured piece of paper with a velvety feel for the embroidered center. This paper was purchased from Provo Craft. Cut a piece 3 x 4 1/2".

Step 2:

You will need an embroidery hoop large enough to place the specialty paper without folding it. Hoop two sheets of tearaway stabilizer and attach the paper to the top of the stabilizer. The Magna Hoop is a good option for stitching paper, or you could use adhesive spray, or adhesive stabilizer. Use two pinkish thread colors to embroider the design in the center of the paper. I used Hemingworth's Bubblegum Pink & Raspberry threads.

Step 3:

When the embroidery is finished, trim away the stabilizer to match the size of the paper.

Step 4:

Now we glue the papers to the front of the blank card. The pink roses frame is a 5x7" piece of paper with a 3 1/2" x 5" solid interior. To duplicate the frame look, you can cut a patterned paper to the 5x7" size, and center a 3 1/2" x 5" solid paper over it.

Step 5:

Last, center the embroidered paper over the solid background area, and glue it in place. This card is finished.

Step 6:

Next, we’ll make a scalloped edge Thank You card. For this card, I used a pink piece of handmade-look paper from Provo Craft for the embroidered center. Cut the paper 6" x 4".

Step 7:

Again, you will need an embroidery hoop large enough to place the specialty paper without folding it.

Step 8:

When the embroidery is finished, trim away the stabilizer to match the size of the paper.

Step 9:

For the scalloped edge, you need a strip of red paper at least 6" x 1 1/4". Trim the edge with a pair of scallop specialty cutting scissors.

Step 10:

Glue the scalloped edge to the bottom of the embroidered paper.

Step 11:

Center this on the blank greeting card, and glue it in place. This card is finished.

Step 12:

Finally, we’ll make a formal Thank You card. For this card, I used a piece of paper that appeared to have thread strands running through it. This paper was purchased from Provo Craft, and looks similar to Mulberry paper. Cut the piece to embroider 6"x4".

Step 13:

Again, you will need an embroidery hoop large enough to place the specialty paper without folding it. Hoop two sheets of tearaway stabilizer attach the paper to the top of the stabilizer. The Magna Hoop is a good option for stitching paper, or you could use adhesive spray, or adhesive stabilizer. Use two pinkish thread colors to embroider the design in the center of the paper. I used Hemingworth's Bubblegum Pink & Raspberry threads.

Step 14:

When the embroidery is finished, trim away the stabilizer to match the size of the paper.

Step 15:

Cut a piece of glossy black paper 4 5/8" x 6 3/". Center it on the front of the blank card, and glue it in place. Center and glue on the embroidered paper. This card is finished.

Step 16:

That's one way to say Thank you in three styles!
