Applique Steps

Applique Steps:

1. Using any fabric, sew the outline stitch for the first applique in any applique design.
2. Trim around outline stitch and use shape as a template for your applique fabric.
3. Repeat steps 1 & 2 for any additional appliques.
4. Embroider design as normal, stopping machine after each applique outline stitch is completed.
5. When machine is stopped, place applique inside outline stitching. Keep fabric in place with spray or other type of adhesive.
6. When applique has been tacked down, stop machine and trim applique fabric as needed.
7. Repeat steps 5 & 6 for additional appliques.
8. Finish design as usual.

Advanced Technique:
Reverse Applique: What makes reverse applique different than normal applique? The applique fabric is hooped beneath the embroidered item, instead of on top. Once embroidered, the main fabric is cut to reveal the applique. If you've done applique and want a new challenge, give this a try!
