I started embroidering when I was eight-years-old by doing embroidering pillowcases for 4H, which I showed at fairs. (If you're not familar with it, 4H is a university extension group that is popular with youth.) When I was in junior high, a friend of mine showed me a cross-stitch kit she was working on. She demonstrated a couple stitches and I was hooked!

Several years later, my sister-in-law was stitching for Emie Bishop (who own the popular hand embroidery company called Cross N Patch). Emie needed another stitcher, so I started cross-stitching for her. In the fall of 1990 my grandmother gave me a hardanger kit. After it sat for a couple of months in my stash pile, I pulled it out and started teaching myself the basics of hardanger. At about that same time Emie started adding hardanger to her offerings, and so I began to stitch hardanger for her. As her samplers advanced, so did I.

Fast forward to the present, and I have been doing hardanger for 19 years and I love it more today than I did then! I have been lucky enough to be able to share my hand embroidery knowledge with others, through in person classes and now through the internet. I hope you enjoy learning this new skill as much as I have enjoyed teaching it!
